In the countdown to the royal wedding, Team iReport has been on the hunt for handmade creations that honor the big day. We’ve been impressed with the results, from a knitted royal wedding party to toothpick art, regal cupcakes and cakes.
Some iReporters have been inspired by Will and Kate's wish to help those less fortunate. (In lieu of gifts, the couple has asked their guests to donate to a charity fund focusing on five causes including children, environmental conservation and military personnel and their families.)
Sue McGorie of Birmingham, England, runs a group called "Blankets for the Elderly" and sent out a royal wedding challenge to her group members, for a blanket that will be donated to a nursing home.
"The squares started coming in from all over the world," she says. "I received fifty-six altogether, some of them being Westminster Abbey, crowns, William and Kate's initials, doves, wedding bells, horseshoes and more."
In Arlington Heights, Illinois, sewer, needle felter and self-confessed Anglophile Nan Beyer created a royal wedding engagement ring pin cushion resembling the sapphire once worn by Princess Diana.
"There was no way I was going to get a real or fake Princess Diana engagement ring and wear it. However, I thought it would be really fun to have a replica ring while I sew."
She is selling the rings on Etsy, with the proceeds to go to Will and Kate’s charities.
