The Royal Wedding: Unveiled
'The Queen' will not watch the royal wedding

'The Queen' will not watch the royal wedding

Helen Mirren, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in “The Queen,” said she will not watch the royal wedding.

She didn’t receive an invitation to the historical event and she isn't making a big deal out of it either.

"I'll probably be in a little Italian bar somewhere and the football will be on. I'll ask, 'Can you switch it over to the royal wedding?' and they will say, 'What wedding?'" Mirren told The Mail On Sunday.

She also stated, "I know this sounds ridiculous, but I think people getting married should be a private thing. I hope they will also do an absolutely private wedding just for them."

Even without Mirren, there will be plenty of celebrities toasting to the newlywed couple on Friday.

Who do you hope to see?

I wish them well, but still feel the royals should be put out to pasture.

I have been having reaglur facial treatments (ultradermie) here for several years and I wouldnt be without them! An hour of pampering with dim lights and gentle music is sheer bliss, and the results are certainly noticeable even as I approach my 60th year, my complexion is the best it's ever been and receives reaglur compliments. The convenience of parking right outside is an added bonus and, when time permits, the peaceful walk along the canal takes only 20 minutes.

16a13635216A lot of thanks for all your vauablle hard work on this web site. Kate really loves working on internet research and it's really easy to see why. Most people hear all relating to the dynamic way you offer insightful tricks through your website and in addition foster participation from other individuals on that area of interest while our own simple princess is certainly studying a lot. Have fun with the remaining portion of the new year. You are always carrying out a great job. 187

Royals?! I guess I'm kind of alone in that I feel positions should be earned not born onto. The monarchy is such an outdated concept. I read it will cost taxpayers about 20 million in security.

"Royalty" - only because the now-Queen's ancestors went to countries and won the wars and took over!!!

Here in the USA, which had the nerve to break away from good ole England, we have the President - who takes flack for everything, including things he didn't start. People here also have a fascination with celebrity – good or bad.

Too bad parents aren't the role models for their children and their children's friends.

Sad that "Prince" Charles wasn't man enough to tell Princess Diana that he didn't love her - and loved someone else - BEFORE marrying in that 'Royal' tradition. The Queen should have kissed Diana's feet instead of mistreating her royally.

It is simply a historical event, the wedding of royalty. It is the fault of us Americans who are glorifying it and adding our own twist to it for our own reasons to make it more/less then what it really is. Yes you can be sleeping or throw your own royal wedding party on their behalf. There really is no discussion, you can do what you want. You can watch it or you can not watch it. The choice is up to us and any opinions about that are irrelevant.

I agree, Josh. But know that it isn't just "us Americans" manipulating or sensationalizing the media coverage, it's most of the free world–and beyond. Like it or not, this is the first "Royal Wedding" post Diana. And what's wrong with our brothers across the pond celebrating their heritage?

      Here! Here! Dawn.
I completely agree. I heard on the tube today that they're making the Spencer family sit over with Kate's side of the church. Not only that, but I guess Sarah Ferguson isn't invited either. This family is nothing but Old bag drama queens! They need to get over themselfs. I won't be watching since I'll be working in a jail with inmates that are more entertaining than these drab stuffy people.

That's not what I heard just yesterday. The Spencers will be on the same side as the Queen. The first pew will be the Queen and the Royal Family, the second for Kate's Family and behind them the Spencers. Which is quite an honor considering the way the seating is at the Abbey. Only a select few (such as the three families just mentioned) will actually be able to SEE the ceremony from within the Abbey.

Take a mental note...you are looking at one of the few people in the world who still believes in the value of privacy. Not their own, but someone else's. We all want to peer over the fence to see what our neighbors are doing, but we get angry when they do the same to us. It's especially notable for a celebrity to say such things because the majority of them make careers out of exploiting the details of their personal lives that most of us ordinary folks keep to ourselves. I just wish there were more people like Helen Mirren.

I was 12 or 13 when Charles and Di got married. It really did seem like a fairy tale – too bad real life isn't that way, but it was a nice escape! This will be the same thing. Interesting, but I'm not putting my entire life on hold for it. I'll DVR the wedding and maybe 1-2 other things, but honestly one could get plenty of post-coverage on any news program.

Here here!! I agree completely. I wasn't born when the Royal Wedding took place, but I was a HUGE fan of Diana's growing up. No one else in my family cared but I have been fascinated with Royalty my entire life, particularly British Royals. I remember my Dad waking me up at 4 or 5am when the news here in the US broke that Diana had died. I sat glued to the TV for days until the Funeral. This wedding is about a new hope for the Monarchy and making a fresh start and learning from the mistakes they made, particularly with Diana.

you're right, i'd sooooo much rather hear about fine american entertainment- jersey shore, real housewives of beverly hills, paris hilton, and so on... people say that the royals need to be done away with because it costs the country so much. at least in the UK, we know what we're spending our money on. in the US, ur taxes go in the pockets of your congressmen and CEOs, behind closed doors.

I don't think it needs to be all over the news, but I think after all of the tragedies world wide lately, and the tragedies in the Prince's life it's nice that he has found happiness. Plus it has given the world something to focus on for a moment that's not sad, and every little girl dreams of being a princess.

Seinfield was right. It is a circus act, no less. The Brits are trying to hang on to whatever old glories they can find and make a big deal out of this mucha-do-about-nothing event at the huge expense of their poor tax payers when the country is literally going broke. That is the price they pay for continuously trying to pretend and act way way above their true belt color when in fact it is getting to be a third rate country, if that. At the end of the day, while I wish the new couple good luck and happiness as all newly-web deserve that well wishes, beyond that, let's not turn this into a gigantic commercialized circus act when there are so much poverty and sufferings all over the world, including many folks within England itself. I am in concurrence with the many people who exclaim 'who the heck cares?!?!'.

An old saying in America.... To all of you..... "Live and let live ". It must have felt terrible to loose their mother at such young age for Willian and Harry . So is this wedding makes Williams happy I am glad for him and the world should be happy that the son of the most loved Princess Diana found happines with Kate, virgin or not, who cares ?.... Have you all not heard that the White House is not having a nativity set this coming Xmas ? ..... Why ?.... Because they cannot find three wise men and virgen !! ...... Eric Onassis.

I am a Royalist but I am sure we will see that wedding for the next 10 years, scrutinized, analyzed, desiccated, criticized etc etc etc, therefore no point to get up for the event. I am grateful for DVR's :) .

I can honestly say that if I had an aunt who tried to sell access to my uncle, her ex-husband, to someone for hundreds of thousands of dollars/pounds/Euro, I'd not invite her to my special day.

This couple is starting beautifully. I wish them well.
I hope that William, should he become King, will do as well as his grandmother has done.
I would be pleased to see Charles skipped, as it is known that his infidelity caused Diana's departure.
Royals have a duty to honor their marriages more strictly than the rest of us, or at least to hide their outside adventures better.

I think there is too much coverage and hype over this. Diana died because of such huge media scrutiny, so why is William condoning all of this media coverage? Its so inappropriate. He is asking for trouble with high intense media coverage. Then to boot it will be all mostly focused on that person he is marrying. She is not royal nor of any noble blood like Diana. She is hideous and is totally wrong for him. Believe me their marriage won't last.

    April 26, 2011 at 6:58 am | Report abuse | Reply

He didn't ASK for the media coverage leading up to the wedding and most likely, it wasn't William or Kate who decided to televise the wedding either. Not to mention he didn't ask for the Pap's to follow them around, specifically Kate. They've also been together for 8 years, there marriage is more likely to match given such a great start. The Media didn't cause Charles and Diana to split, it was Charles' infidelity with Camilla that split them up. Diana and Charles had also only met 13 times when they got married!!

manelemonkty30 on December 30, 2009 they are the same car, and the escalade is listed at like $20,000 more. the inside is the same, same chassis, smaller engine in the escalade, and some more bling on the escalade, not worth an extra $20,000.

Maybe, but why spend money on a book? The only thing that will give you abs is keeping your body fat pegcentare (BFP) below 11%. You can do a thousand crunches a day, but if you've got a BFP of 15% you'll have laundry on that washboard. The actual pegcentare differs for each person (we all store fat differently).Do about half an hour of cardio every day, and a few anaerobic lifts to increase overall calorie expenditure.

Yeah, because nothing prior to this could embarrass our founding fathers more than a lovely royal event where two young people are wed as admirers look on. Outsourcing American jobs isn't embarrassing and causing our founding fathers to roll in their graves, either, I bet.

I remember watching when Diana got married it was wonderful! Enjoy life stop being so negative! I say good luck and hope they have a life time of happiness!

I totally agree, Fran. It never ceases to amaze me that people take time to put out their 2 cents worth on topics they don't care about. If you don't care about something, you can keep right on moving along. We who are interested don't need a update from those who are not. I plan to watch it as well. I watched his mother marry his father. I watched as the world looked on while Will and his brother walked during their mother's funeral. I watched the concert celebrating the 10th anniversary of her passing. It's a celebration. If people don't like it, fine, but don't come here and cast judgement over those of us who are interested.

if you put a current photo of Christina Aguilera next to Helen Mirren, you would think they are mother and daughter,
Christina being a little shorter version too. Christina knows what she can look like when she ages. the faces are
